How To Style Your -Kinda- Fall Wardrobe + Emmy Fashion

Image
Alright, so it is now officially Autumn. Say goodbye to your sundresses. And although I'm just excited as the next girl to bust out my scarves & boots, Mother Nature is just not quite there yet. If you live in Atlanta like me, or perhaps in Florida &/or Arizona where I grew up, then you know it doesn't typically get cold enough to really bundle up until around Thanksgiving. So what do we wear in the meantime? Here are my suggestions for a kinda fall wardrobe to wear before we go full Eskimo from head to toe. This is the perfect time of year to switch up your color palette but still show a little skin.  Try a leather mini like one of my favorite muses, Reese Witherspoon. Take a note from J. Crew & ease into those fall neutrals by going with the new 2014 Pantone colors,  "Sand" & "Paloma" instead of jumping right to blacks & browns. I especially love the monochromatic idea. I've never actually tried the shorts with t

Did you know this past Tuesday was National Punctuation Day? I know this because my mother is a high school english teacher, of course.  Needless to say, things like punctuation have been engraved into my brain. So in honor of this, I decided to do a fun post dedicated to punctuation, good grammer & well...intelligence in general. " Today is the day to pause, perhaps with the help of a comma or two, to commemorate National Punctuation Day. It's part awareness, part celebration of how important punctuation marks are to accurately express, define, even truncate (thank you, ellipsis) our writing." - http://www.nationalpunctuationday.com/ My favorite punctuation mark is the oxford comma, followed by the exclamation point! Anyone who's ever received a text from me knows this well. :) I also have a deep love for the ampersand. Which I know is not punctuation, but it's in the same family. Always remember the rule of "it" Yes, yes, s

Happy Crafternoon!

Every once in a while I get that DIY itch. I've been wanting to make some cute coasters for a while now because I can never seem to find any in stores that I don't find tacky-looking. So I decided to head to Hobby Lobby, get craftin' & share! The supplies are super simple: Pre-cut cork coasters + sharpies. At first I wanted to do metallics, but I realized they would look lackluster against the cork background. So I opted for jewel tones instead! Here are some other DIYs I've done in the past & the Pinterest shots that inspired them! This tray lives on my dresser & makes a perfect home for my delicate jewelry. It could also be cute in a foyer to place your sunnies, keys, mail, etc. This was made simply from some adhesive chalk board paper that I picked up at Homegoods & put into a white frame. I sits in my bathroom where I read my favorite Audrey Hepburn quote every day while getting ready.  I adore this unique way of hanging art i

Recently a guy friend of mine scored an awesome new job, so of course, he'll need an equally awesome new wardrobe to go with it. When he jokingly asked me to help him go shopping, I jumped at the opportunity! I live for fashion & styling my girlfriends, mom, sister, etc. But guys are a different story! So it inspired me to do a post on menswear I love. In my opinion, here are seven ways to dress like a dapper young gentleman: 1) Every guy needs some cropped chinos/jeans & a great jacket. 2) Get a great pair of glasses. Whether prescription, sunnies, or both. 3) Own a great suit. So you'll only be able to bust it out at the occasional wedding or work Christmas party, but when you do...it is so good. You know what they say, "A well-tailored suit is to a women, what lingerie is to men." 4) Take a que from the greats. Keep it tailored, crisp, ironed , & classic. 5) Top it off

Wise Words for the Working Gal

Image
It's Wednesday. Some would say this particular day of the work week is harder than Mondays. I typically find myself needing some motivation around this time every week & to get that, I remind myself of some of my tried-&-true mantras. Here are a few of my favorites to help you get through the work day: If yesterday was tough, don't let it dictate today. Chin up! Make that to-do list your you-know-what! ;) Say yes! I find that once I've accepted the challenge, I already feel more confident. Even if I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm proud that I didn't automatically say no to something that is out of my comfort zone. You will shock yourself at what you are capable of if you overcome something that initially seemed scary. Failure only comes when you stop trying. I literally recite this to myself all the time. I even had a print of it hanging above my desk in college. Beautiful, simple words by Nelsen Mandela. Lastly,

Sunday Round-Up: 5 Things to Smile About

Image
Here are five things that made me smile this week: 1) This clever illustration I saw on Tumblr:  "A Better Curriculum" by Tyler Faith Feder . I definitely think I'll be buying a print of this from her Etsy or Society 6 shops! 2) Today is my maternal grandparent's 70th wedding anniversary . That wasn't a typo, they have been married for 70 years! So incredible, admirable & inspiring. Did I also mention that they had 12 children? Here are a few pictures of them that I love. On their wedding day. With their 12 children. My mom is the little one on the left with her dolly! All the children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren at our Hull Family Reunion 2010. 3) This past week was New York Fashion Week which means that the new Pantone Colors for Spring 2014 were released! I am particularly excited about Violet Tulip, Cayenne, & Paloma. :)

My Warby Parker Experience + Denim Vests

Image
So to say I am in need of new glasses is an understatement - I've been wearing the same "J.Lo" brand pair since 8th grade! So sad. But really, they were only worn at night & on Christmas morning. So I am finally getting a new pair & decided to try Warby Parker ! It's super trendy & awesome. How it works: You get to order 5 pairs for FREE & they send you them (not prescription), you try them on & send them back & order! How cool is that? So you get this cute little box in the mail. And they include a fun note! I opted for 5 different shades of Tortoise Shell - timeless, classic & goes with everything. They also send you cute emails! And thanks to my trusty webcam, here they are! "The Chandler" - very "Jenna Lyons-esque" "The Preston" - my fave "The Ainsworth" - runner-up "The Mallory" - make me look like a cartoon character "The S
